SEIZING THE POWER WITH BRI LEE

“Be annoying”. This was the key message that Bri Lee, academic, writer and activist, shared with us during this year’s Women in Super National Road Show. She gave all who attended a masterclass in what it takes to be an advocate, by reminding us that we don’t have to be liked all the time. In fact annoying the right people is a key part of making change.

CONGRATULATIONS - WE'VE DONE IT!

It’s been a bit of a slog at times but what a sensational end to the year. I have been privileged enough to attend a number of end of year events and I got to reconnect with many of you as well as continue to meet new people. The support for WIS and the work that you do with us continues to fill me with pride and great hope for the future.

A NOTE FROM THE CEO, Jo Kowalczyk

When I started in this role in March, I knew two key things - I was walking in the footsteps of some incredible women, and I wanted to be part of facilitating opportunities for women to continue to play a leading role and make a difference in the industry.

THE FUTURE IS LOOKING BRIGHT

It’s been quite a month since my last note: We launched our collaborative research with Right Lane Consulting , held our inaugural Helen Hewett Oration with Dr Alice Garner, became recipients of a generous research grant from the Hewett/McDonald family, participated in a Carers Australia Care and Employment Summit, and still found time to hold our quarterly sub-committee and Board meetings.

HAS A GENDER LENS ACTUALLY BEEN APPLIED TO THE FEDERAL BUDGET?

Less than 48 hours ago the Federal Treasurer delivered the budget. In the lead up Minister for Finance, Women and Public Service, Katy Gallagher told us that gender equality is at the heart of everything the government does, every budget decision is seen through a gendered lens, and lifting women up is central to Australia’s economic prosperity. So, did the budget deliver on those claims?
